Skater Spotlight: Gori Spelling

Fun fact about yourself?
I’m obsessed with country music and pickup trucks!

Career Highlights?
I feel like being on the LA Ri-ettes since 2008 is my biggest derby accomplishment. We won the 1st Battle on the Bank, and the most recent (2012). The team has changed a lot and come a long way over the years and I’m very proud to wear silver and black!

Pre bout routines: What do you do to mental/physically prepare?
I make sure I don’t have any other plans for the day so I’m not stressed out or running around. I usually take our dogs for a long walk with my husband and eat a healthy breakfast with (veggie) protein so I have enough energy to get me through the day. Favorite pre-bout meal would be Animal Lovers from Nickel Diner in DTLA.

Roller derby skater you admire and why?
I admire all skaters who can skate for years, be at the top of their game, and still keep learning and becoming a better player. I think it’s easy to hit a plateau, and I really appreciate everyone who continues to up their game.

What other hobbies (other then roller derby, duh!) do you enjoy?

My favorites are horseback riding, snowboarding and hiking. Something I love and wish I could do more is sailing.
